The Times’ 75th anniversary
The Times is today kicking off its 75th anniversary celebrations.
It was on August 7, 1935 when the first edition of The Times of Malta hit the newsstands – and the organisation founded by Mabel Strickland has never looked back.
Since then, it has never missed a beat, fast becoming Malta’s main and biggest-selling newspaper, detailing world history and providing independent reportage and analysis of local news.
Allied Newspapers has grown from strength to strength along the years, branching out into book publishing, magazines and an online service among others.
The 75th anniversary also coincides with the inauguration of the new Progress Press premises, the printing arm of Allied Newspapers. The €26 million state-of-the-art factory in Mrieħel will expand its business to further tap the international printing market.
A full programme of activities will be announced shortly.
