The furore surrounding a forthcoming book about the inner workings of Number 10 has seen it climb to first place in Amazon.co.uk’s political books charts, and 15th overall, in advance of its publication next week.
The End of the Party, by journalist Andrew Rawnsley, is published by Viking and due out on 1st March as a hardback, priced £25. Within Amazon’s main charts, the book is currently ahead of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight, Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife and Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.
This weekend saw a mass of coverage for the book, which claims that prime minister Gordon Brown raged, swore and was even violent towards his aides. An extract of the book, published in yesterday’s Observer, described how he “went berserk” with members of his team, and one occasion when he “roughly shoved” an adviser.
Last night the allegations continued to gain ground after the National Bullying Helpline claimed members of Brown’s staff had called the service.
