Bookworm Hosts ‘Speed Dating by the Book’
From Publishers Weekly
The Bookworm in Omaha, Neb., is hosting a fundraiser for Haiti relief this Sunday that, hopefully, will also bring over-30-year-old bookloving singles together. The Bookworm’s “Speed Dating by the Book” will be at the held at the store on February 21, and a portion of the $10 entrance fee will be donated to The Haitian Earthquake Relief Fund.
According to event organizer and bookseller Nancy Rips, participants are asked to bring their favorite book with them to “start the conversation going” during four-minute segments between pairs, before the men line up on one side, women on the other, for the question-and-answer part of the evening. The moderator will ask each participant such questions as “What is the favorite book your mother read to you?” or “What was your favorite read in high school?”
“People can bring absolutely any book along with them, from Dr. Seuss to John Grisham,” Rips said. Scores will be tallied at the end of the evening, and matching couples can then exchange names and e-mails. Rips said the event was scheduled for February 21, in order to accommodate singles who hadn’t found a Valentine on February 14.
