Poetry evening at Attard
The Ghaqda Poeti Maltin (Maltese Poets Association) recently organised a poetry evening at the Attard parish centre at the invitation of the Attard local council and the cultural section within the parish pastoral council. The compere was Dr Joseph Axiaq, the Association’s assistant secretary.
In an introductory speech to a packed hall, Association president Alfred Massa expressed his satisfaction that such evenings have become popular and are steadily attracting large audiences. Mr Massa stressed the importance of poetry in our lives and referred to the last meeting held by the World Congress of Poets which appealed to poets all over the world to use poetry for the good of today’s world especially where love, solidarity and brotherhood are concerned.
After readings of poems in both Maltese and English, the vice-president Patrick Sammut gave a short talk on the structure of the sonnet, while young violinist Augosto Quintano entertained those present with classical music.
