Over 2, 200 persons have joined the facebook group ‘front against censorship’, which is planning a national protest in Valletta on 24 February at 1700 hrs.
The Front was started after Mark Camilleri, 21, has been charged under the criminal code for distributing ‘pornography’ after he published a story by Alex Vella Gera on the University newspaper ‘Realta’.
Earlier last week, the Front issued a statement where it said that that it is wholeheartedly against the exploitation of vulnerable sections of society and also believes that the government should always be there to protect citizens.
However the abolition of censorship has nothing to do with the exploitation of vulnerable communities because despite the censorship approved by the state, such exploitation is still being carried out, the Front said.
Apart from independent citizens, the Front is made up of: Alternattiva Demokratika Zghazagh, Forum Zghazagh Laburisti, Kollettiv Ir-Realta’, General Workers Union Youths, Unifaun Theatre Productions, Moviment Graffitti, Zminijietna, MOVE – Progressive Students and Pulse.
